An accounting practice in Larnaca prices work in three shapes: a fixed annual fee for the recurring filings, bookkeeping charged by volume or by hour, and advisory time charged hourly. The district ranges are in the table below, read at page load rather than typed into this article. What decides where a business lands inside them is transaction volume and the condition records arrive in — not the practice's postcode, and rarely the size of the company as its owner describes it.

Local market summary

Larnaca's commercial base is unusually mixed for its size, and that mix shows up directly in accounting fees. The airport and the port pull in freight forwarding, customs clearance, shipping agency and travel businesses, most of which supply services across borders. The coastal strip from Mackenzie out through Oroklini and Pyla trades seasonally. Aradippou and the industrial zone behind it hold light manufacturing, trade counters and a long tail of small contractors. Each of those profiles generates a different filing load from the same turnover.

Three points are worth establishing before comparing quotes.

Not every provider can sign everything. Bookkeeping and the preparation of draft accounts are done by a wide group. A statutory audit report may be signed only by the holder of a practising certificate, and ICPAC holds the register of members and member firms. Whether a company needs a full audit or may file a limited assurance review turns on its own figures against the size thresholds in the Companies Law, so that question belongs at the quoting stage rather than after the year end.

Registered office and secretarial work is separately licensed. Where a practice also acts as registered office, company secretary or nominee, that is a licensed activity held through ICPAC, CySEC or the Cyprus Bar Association.

Capacity is seasonal in the other direction. Larnaca's hospitality and travel clients deliver their paperwork once the season ends, which puts a large share of the district's close and audit work into the same winter window. A company booking its close for February is queuing behind them.

What it costs here

The national table shows what the work costs across the Republic; the district table shows where Larnaca sits inside that. Every figure carries the number of quotes behind it and the month it was recorded.

Match the fee shape to the obligation. A fixed annual fee suits the recurring statutory calendar — VAT returns, the annual return with financial statements, the corporate income tax return — because those items are known in advance. It should name each filing rather than say "accounting services", which prices nothing. Volume or hourly bookkeeping covers the part nobody can size in advance: the number of bank accounts, whether more than one currency passes through them, and whether records arrive as a reconciled export or as a folder of photographs. Hourly advisory covers everything else, and the rate belongs in the engagement letter even when no advisory work is expected.

What moves a Larnaca quote inside its range, in rough order of weight: transaction volume; the number of accounts and currencies; whether the company supplies services to taxable persons in other EU member states, which brings a monthly VIES statement alongside the VAT return; payroll headcount and how much of it churns seasonally; whether the audit or review is named, with the signing firm identified; and whether the fee assumes documents arrive by an agreed cut-off date.

Local conditions that change the job

Seasonal turnover crosses thresholds quietly. Compulsory VAT registration follows €15,600 of taxable supplies in any twelve-month period. A beach kiosk, a short-let operator in Oroklini or a summer excursion business can pass that inside a few busy weeks. The obligation arises when the threshold is crossed; the accountant usually sees it at the quarter end, which is later.

Cross-border services add a second monthly cycle. Freight, agency and consultancy businesses around the airport and port commonly supply services to VAT-registered customers elsewhere in the EU. That triggers the recapitulative VIES statement monthly, on a shorter cycle than the quarterly VAT return it accompanies. A quote priced for a domestic retailer has not priced this.

Payroll churn is a fee item. Seasonal staff mean starters and leavers rather than a stable list, and payroll with social insurance and health system contributions runs monthly regardless. Practices price payroll per payslip for that reason, so headcount at peak matters more than the average.

The four-month record rule sets the real deadline. Accounting records must be updated within four months of the transaction date. That is imposed on the company, not preferred by the bookkeeper. A director who delivers a season's bank statements in one envelope in November has fallen outside it whatever the engagement letter says.

Distance still costs time. Filings to the Tax Department and the Registrar go in through national online systems, so location is irrelevant to most of the work. It becomes relevant when an original has to be signed or the district office attended, which is when a client at Kiti, Pyla or out towards the salt lake villages loses a working morning to a single signature.

Companies covering the area

Our accounting pages and the Larnaca coverage page list practices working in the district with what can be documented next to each one: registration checked against the Registrar of Companies with the date of that check, stated services, coverage and years active. That is a shortlist rather than a verdict. Before engaging anyone, confirm the practice on the ICPAC register under the name that appears on its invoices rather than a trading style. Where an audit is in scope, ask for the name of the firm and of the individual who will sign the report. Where registered office or secretarial services are included, ask which body holds the licence. Then ask for the handover terms in writing — which files are released if the engagement ends, in what format, and within how many working days. Ledgers held in a system that exports nothing become expensive at precisely the point a relationship has already broken down.

Common questions

Does an accountant in Larnaca have to be licensed?

It depends on the work. Bookkeeping and preparing draft accounts are not restricted acts. Signing a statutory audit report requires a practising certificate, and acting as registered office, company secretary or nominee requires an administrative services licence held through ICPAC, CySEC or the Cyprus Bar Association. Ask which of those apply to the engagement being quoted, and check the register.

Do you publish reviews or ratings for accountants in Larnaca?

No. The accounting listings and district coverage pages order practices on what a document can prove — registration, professional body entry, time in practice — and the method is published on the methodology page.

Can a practice in another district act for a Larnaca company?

Yes. Returns to the Tax Department and the Registrar of Companies are filed through national online systems, so a Nicosia or Limassol practice can act for a company trading in Larnaca. Proximity earns its keep when originals need signing or the district tax office has to be attended, which is why the coverage pages here are organised by district.

What are the fixed dates in the year?

VAT returns fall due by the 10th day of the second month after the period ends. Provisional corporate tax is paid in two instalments, on 31 July and 31 December, with a 10% surcharge where the declared figure comes in below 75% of the final liability. The corporate income tax return, form TD4, is due by 31 March of the second year following the tax year. Payroll and social insurance run monthly.

Who is liable if a return is filed late?

The company. Delegating the work does not move the obligation, and penalties and interest are charged to the company rather than to the adviser. That is the reason for agreeing document cut-off dates in writing and for asking, each period, for the submission receipt rather than an assurance that something has been dealt with.

What should a quote contain before it is accepted?

Each filing named individually, the bookkeeping basis stated as volume or hourly, the audit or review priced with the signing firm identified, the advisory rate, the document cut-off dates, and the financial statements described as prepared under IFRS as adopted by the EU. A single annual figure against the phrase "accounting services" cannot be compared with anything.
